FISA Court Rebukes FBI

Today, Rosemary Collyer, the Presiding Judge of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, FISC, issued a public rebuke to the FBI.  This comes a week after the release of the DOJ Inspector General report of FISA warrant abuse in 2016.  That report by IG Michael Horowitz details hundreds of errors, omissions and outright lies which were part of the FISA warrant application to wiretap former Trump campaign volunteer, Carter Page.  Many of these errors were repeated in the four subsequent applications to renew the warrant, which only lasts 90 days.  According to the New Times article by Charlie Savage, Judge Collyer demanded that the Federal Bureau of Investigations provide her with a plan to prevent such from happening again by January 10.  The FISC also wants more documents and information about the FBI lawyers who acted to mislead the judges.

Horowitz Testifies On FISA Abuse

Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee today.  On Monday, he released his report on how the FBI abused the FISA warrant process to spy on the 2016 Trump campaign.  There was much ado in The Media about his conclusion that there was no political bias in what became known as Operation Crossfire Hurricane.  But, despite the Fake News Media claims, and those made recently by former FBI Director James Comey that the Horowitz report vindicates and clears the FBI of bias, they missed a crucial point.  Horowitz only exonerated the initial beginning of Crossfire Hurricane of political bias.  Specifically the actions by then Assistant Director of Counter-Intelligence, E.W. 'Bill' Priestap.  During today's testimony, Horowitz did state that as the FBI operation moved forward, the bias issue becomes much "murkier", especially during the time of the application for a FISA warrant to surveil Trump campaign volunteer, Carter Page.  Horowitz also noted that while his review of documents, including text messages and emails of FBI agents, lawyers and officials, some employees did have a pro-Trump bias.  But, none of these pro-Trump employees were active members of the Crossfire Hurricane team.  Many of that team demonstrated a very definite pollical bias against then Candidate Donald J. Trump.

FISA Report vs Impeachment

The clock ran out for House Democrats Monday.  The FISA abuse report from DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz was made public. Early news stories attempted to downplay its significance.  While Horowitz does fall short of charging that political bias played a major role, a point which Attorney General William Barr and Federal Prosecutor John Durham disagree with, there is still plenty to raise eyebrows.  For example, Horowitz confirms that while the FBI did not plant their own agents as spies inside the Trump campaign, the FBI certainly did use informants to spy on Trump aides and the campaign.  As for the FISA warrant to spy on Carter Page, Horowitz lists 17 omissions and errors in the warrant request.  Horowitz also confirms that the primary basis for requesting the warrant was the 'dirty dossier' from Christopher Steele.  According to Horowitz, that document was completely discredited by January, 2017.  Yet, the FISA warrant continued to be renewed, as James Comey and others failed to inform the FISA court judges that the Steele document was inaccurate and funded by the Hillary Clinton campaign.

More Woes For FBI, Deep State

We have several headlines this weekend, casting more doubts about the Federal Bureau of Investigations. News from the Justice Department is that the Inspector General, Michael Horowitz, may be alleging that former Deputy Director Andrew McCabe was leaking to The Media before his forced retirement. We already know that James Comey had, at the very least, leaked confidential memos to the press via a law school professor. The latest allegations claim that McCabe was leaking information in the days just before, and long after, the 2016 presidential election. On top of this, we have the FBI response to a FIOA request by Judicial Watch for documents dealing with secret briefings by Comey and McCabe to Barack Obama. We know from the text messages from Peter Strzok and Lisa Page that one such meeting took place in early September, 2016. Another took place on January 5th, 2017. We learned about that one from the email Susan Rice sent herself as she was cleaning out her desk on January 20, 2017.

Memo May Show FBI, DOJ FISA Abuse

Yesterday, the House Intelligence Committee allowed all members of Congress to read a 4-page memo summarizing a cache of documents obtained from the Department of Justice. These were FBI and DOJ files which the Intel Committee had issued subpoenas for last summer. Last week Friday, the DOJ finally turned them over after much pressure. The contents of this memo are classified, however, a number of Republican Congressmen, such as Rep. Mark Gaetz (R-FL), are talking. Gaetz and others say that what they read shocked them and they are demanding that the memo and files be made public. The gist of the memo is that it ′names names′ and outlines how a group of FBI and DOJ officials have abused, and are still abusing, the FISA court in order to spy and undermine the election and administration of President Donald Trump.
