Reince Priebus Out, John Kelly In As White House Chief Of Staff

Sometime late Thursday, Reince Priebus resigned as White House Chief of Staff. Come Friday afternoon, President Donald Trump tweeted on Twitter than retired General John F. Kelly, Secretary of Homeland Security, would be taking the job over. This ended a week which also saw the exit of Sean Spicer from the White House, and a promise by Anthony Scaramucci to fire anyone who leaks or is not on board with the Trump agenda. Kelly, a no-nonsense sort of man after a long career in the U.S. Marine Corps, is expected to bring discipline to the White House. Some already question just how far he can go, especially with Ivanka and Jared Kushner having direct access to The Boss?

Allow me to start by giving Reince Priebus some due credit. I know, many people automatically accuse him of being a GOP Establishment ′Cuck′. He′s too cozy with many of the ′Never Trump′ crowd and last October, allegedly discussed with Candidate Trump to quit the campaign after the Access Hollywood tape was made public. But, I have to say I admire Priebus for a number of reasons. First, he did clean up the mess that Michael Steele had left the RNC in. Secondly, Priebus did hold the RNC, and even most of the GOP, together during the 2016 presidential campaign, especially during the primary season. Outright civil war was possible back then, but thanks to the cool, calm, collective Priebus holding everyone′s hands, the GOP functioned much less chaotically than the Democratic Party did. The DNC is still in such bad shape that they are in a financial hole.

The timing of the Priebus exit may be connected to Scaramucci becoming the new White House Communications Director. However, it may also have much to do with the failure of the GOP Senators to pass even the milquetoast ′Skinny Repeal′ bill on Thursday. The repeal and replace of Obamacare has been a nightmare for the Trump administration. Other key legislative initiatives, such as tax reform, infrastructure and securing the borders, have been delayed and sidelined because of the Obamacare situation. Both the House and the Senate Republicans have shown themselves to be lukewarm towards the Trump Agenda. The Democrats in Congress are as cold as ice.

John Kelly has quite a bit of experience when it comes to dealing with Congress. He is a force who is respected, even admired, by both political parties, having served under previous administrations. If Kelly can unravel the Gordian Knot and breakthrough the obstacles of Congress, then President Trump might just get his agenda accomplished before the 2018 elections. The General has already shown that he can get the job done without much support from Congress. As DHS Secretary, illegal border crossings are down by some 70% and deportations are up by almost 40%. This was done without ′The Wall′ being built! President Donald Trump likes Kelly and they seem to have a personal rap-pour. You can always count on a Marine when the going gets tough!
