President Donald Trump, Populism 2.0

July 20, 2017

During the past 48 hours or so, with the demise of the latest GOP healthcare bill in the Senate, pundits from Rush Limbaugh on down have been talking about the divide between President Donald Trump and the Republican Party. Establishment GOP types think that they can stay on the fence, or even hide behind it, and let the Trump agenda wither on the vine. They never respected him nor took his campaign seriously. They think they can do nothing to help him and still get reelected.

If the Tea Party Revolt in 2010 was Populism 1.0, the election of President Donald Trump is Populism 2.0. New and improved, the voters fed-up with ′The New Normal′ have remained loyal to President Trump in every poll despite the best efforts by the Fake News Media to torpedo him. We are even seeing counter demonstrations at many of the Far-Left Anti-Trump rallies. Every single poll shows that Trump has a higher approval rating than either party in Congress. ′The Deplorables′ have finally found a real leader to support and so far, attempts to separate them from him have failed.

I don′t know what else The Establishment has up their sleeves, but it seems to me that they have taken their best shots and are running out of ammunition and time. Before you know it, the 2018 mid-term elections will be upon us and Establishment candidates have nothing to show. Not only are they not helping President Trump with his agenda, but they are not doing much on any other of the nation′s business.

Case in point, the federal budget is due by October 1st and Congress is dragging its feet, as usual. The House barely as some 20 days left on their schedule to finish the nation′s business, the Senate about 35 days. They are way behind on everything, including confirming Trump administration appointees. Other key issues, like tax reform and border security are no closer to be resolved than repealing and replacing Obamacare. The Trump White House is doing what it can using its executive authority. Unlike Congress, President Trump is working hard, putting in long days, sometimes exceeding 12 hours daily on the job. About triple the time Obama worked on average.

Populism is growing and becoming a more powerful force with each delay and setback by Congress. People are even getting fed up with some of the federal courts, like the 9th Circuit! For decades, we mostly saw protesters just from the Far-Left with the exception of Pro-Life demonstrators. Sure, sometimes the number of Pro-Trump protesters are only a dozen or so, counter-demonstrating the paid-for, Anti-Trump protesters. But a trend has started and is increasing steadily.

I have no doubt that many of the Establishment candidates, like Paul Ryan, will be safe in 2018. However, many more will undoubtedly face primary challenges, such that big money donations from Lobbyists and Super-PACS will have no effect. The Populist Movement in America is here to stay! The People have awaken and now know that they can win. The Tea Party Revolt and the election of President Donald Trump have proven that. The clock is ticking on the current members of Congress, from both parties, to decide if they will continue to serve their masters in the Special Interests, or bend to the will of The People and serve them for a change!
