2018 Midterm Election Results, Trump Stops Blue Wave

by Andrew Zarowny, 11/7/2018

The 2018 midterm election results are a divided nation and a divided government. President Donald Trump did stop the so-called ′Blue Wave′ as Democrats failed to get control of both the House and the Senate. Nor did they win back the House by a typical, first-term-midterm. In 1994, Bill Clinton lost 54 House seats and in 2010, Barack Obama lost 63. President Trump only lost 26, which is less than the average 30 historically. Meanwhile, he gained at least 3, if not 4 or 5 seats in the Senate. In the past 80 years, the total number of seats won by a president in his first-term midterm is 8.

So, we now have a divided government. Democrats will use control of the House to obstruct President Trump with more probes and investigations. Meanwhile, he will have an easier time appointing judges and department officials. Any talk of impeachment will be futile, but I have no doubt that the Democrats will still try, if for no other reason than to smear President Trump.

In some respects, this may work out well for 2020. Senate Democrats have already shown themselves to be utter fools. Those in the House were already pretty bad. Now, the Democrats will have a full-blown freak show in the House. This will give President Trump a good foil to campaign against in 2020. I do not expect the Democrats to hold control of the House for more than one term.

So, in the end, the results of the 2018 midterm elections have changed nothing. President Trump was not getting much help from Paul Ryan. The House was practically worthless. Any blame for Republicans losing the House falls on Ryan, as well as John McCain and Jeff Flake. One of the major reasons why voters voted as they did was because of the failure to repeal and replace Obamacare. Also the failure to secure the border and resolve the long-term immigration issues. The good news is now President Trump can spend more time on draining The Swamp since the Senate will be more friendly.
